mission block party

the neighbors threw a block party and invited the city fire department. there was ice cream, which I am proud to day I resisted (want to loose 2 lbs per week - go to the gym AND avoid ice cream.)

HOW did I avoid ice cream when there were 13 yummy flavors? Easy, I took pictures. I actually love taking pictures more than I love ice cream, really I do. If this sort of substitution works for my clients who are quitting smoking, it should work for me when I'm avoiding high fat foods right?

I rounded up the kids for a photo session and they were happy to play on the fire truck and put on the fire cooat and hat.....

Fit by Forty!

I'm on my way to my health goal....I finally have a plan that could work. Joined 24 hour fitness (don't love the atmosphere, but love the convenience of exercising WHENEVER I want) working with a trainer, doing cardio and keeping a food & exercise log.

I've lost 4 lbs in the last week. My goal is 2/wk. Some weeks are bound to be better than others. If I keep up w/ the fitness and food tracking I can be a healthy weight by February 1 and my "cute" weight by May. I'm allowing myself to not loose any weight over Christmas, but I still need to maintain during those weeks to stay on track, so no gaining..... Achieving my cute weight would be nice, but really after so many years now at an unhealthy size, I will feel proud even of achieving and maintaining healthy. At least, that's what i tell myself now.

I have less than 16 months until I turn 40. I plan to celebrate my 40th birthday in good health. I plan to be so fit by then that I feel confident enough to lead a Zumba class. That means not just loosing weight - but improving my cardiovascular health and endurance.

My current (short term) goals: Be able to jog through an entire techno song on the treadmill without stopping or developing shin splints. Also, be able to actually do all of the reps of arm exercises assigned by my personal trainer. Right now my arms and shoulders are REALLY weak.

oh yes i finshed my 365 project not so into blogging lately - currently looking for models for hubby's drawings in his book. This is such a great picture becuase of the light and the way the boy's hair is flying in back despite the attempt to tame it - and the big grin.

I was moaning about the trouble fo getting a good photo on a work day - wondering what I could do that was new or at least interesting. Well, when I arrived home hubby had fixed my tripod with his new screwdriver set. Well, that settled it given that the lovely moon was full. This is the best series of moon shots I've been able to get to date - I put the tripod on full tilt - and up on a table - then I stoood on some chairs to focus... Happy day.

states...

i'm happy to hear that obama won another primary today. The thing is I like hillary and as a woman I do feel a little guilty not supporting her - but I think obama gets more of the young and other people who don't usually vote excited enough to come out and vote - which means more votes for democrats - and I believe he will be more diplomatic. I believe both would make a good president - but I believe obama would be more effective. I seldom put my political opinioin out there in cyber space - but here I am spouting off. This is the first time in a while I've been excited about and candidate rather than just voting against the opposition. The first time I heard an interview with Obama I really liked him and hoped he would run for president. I am so happy that he is. I really want to believe in our country that we can be good again after almost 8 years of being ugly americans. 8 years of not caring about the poor, not caring about human rights, just not caring. It's time America to again show that we care.

In an unrelated matter the map below shows what states I've visited in my life. For some reason it cuts off when I post it here - well I really did it for my own benefit. I wanted to see where else in the states I needed to visit. Some of the places I really remember very little (like New York, the Dakotas, Nevada, Tennesee) becuase I was so little. Other places like Oregon, Washington, Colorado, South Carolina, New Mexico and Arizona... I remember well and love.

Day 260/365 in Project 365 started April 25 2007

Grattitude: I'm grateful to be working indoors today. I listened to a talk about health disparities for Native Americans hisotorically and currently today. It reminded me how blessed I am to have good health care, and that my parents and grandparents have good health care. I am also fortunate to work with people who are trying to work to change health disparities.

Project 365 Day 259

Grattitude: I am happy i decided to take the camera to work this morning. I am grateful that we were able to get an AWD car to replace hubby's truck when it broke - so that we both have a safe vehicle to drive to work when the roads are ice and snow covered. I am grateful for anti-lock brakes which helped me in the intersection today!

Gratitude: I'm grateful my hubby cooks and that we are both willing to try new things - and even willing to take the risk that sometimes they won't be what we expected - sometimes on the other hand they will be even better than we'd hoped. I'm grateful to be loved.

If you love this bead you can purhcase your very own from the artist on etsy ltsexpressions@etsy.com she also has some of her beads here on flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/ltsexpressions/

Gratitude Today I am grateful for the gift of this beautiful bead. The swirls are exactly what I've been attracted to lately. I was looking at some of Andy Goldsworthy's work this weekend and feeling especially attracted to the spirals - then today I was given this wonderful bead with spirals and bluish black dots. I am also grateful for my husband making us stew and soda bread. for the artists in my life and the friends

Day 254 of Project 365

This pictures was taken in the hopes that hubby will do a paiting of him some day.

Grattitude: I'm grateful I got to spend the day with my hubby when I thought he'd be sleeping all day due to working tonight. We discovered "The Mixx" a few weeks ago - went there today it's a great lunch place - nice fresh tossed salads made to order and wonderful soups. Soup is one of my favorite foods. Then we looked at Andy Goldsworthy books at the store while having coffee. This guy was perusing a magazine and his face just begs to be photographed don't you think?

Portraits aren't so much my thing but unitl I go outside I'll practice the occasional enviornmental portriat since I'd like to be able to take good travel photos should I ever get to travel....

Day 248 of Project 365 (started april 2007)

Gratitude: I'm grateful to have time off with my sweetie to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time trapesing around a local lake. I'm grateful for secluded places to hike. And, since this was not a naturally occuurring lake, I am grateful to the army corp of engineers for building it. I'm grateful to my husband for encouraging my frequent photo stops - I know it sometimes slows us down quite a bit on our hikes. I am grateful to god for the eagle posing and the weather being warm enough for us to venture out.

i was able to get in somewhat close but unfortunately when i tried to move to a place where the branches wouldn't be so cluttery - off he flew. and my lens isn't good for fast movement like flight it's a clunky old manual 1000 mm there are a few more but they have all these branches too

Daily Examen - things to consider each day

1. Express Gratitude 2. Petition for light (see self & ohters in God's eyes, ask to see the role only I can play) 3. Review the day: look at day's actions, omissions, thoughts & desires what does this tell me aobut myself in relation to self, others, God, the world 4. Lift out something & ask for help 5. look ahead - how do I want to carry on (today - the rest of my life what / who do I want to be master of my life? what are my core values? )
